New Teacher/Employee Orientation

They’re all in their places with bright smiling faces!  No, school hasn’t started for students but on Wednesday, July 24th approximately 50 new employees of the Bradford County School District reported for New Teacher/Employee Orientation for a two-day kick-off of the 2019-2020 school year.

Superintendent Stacey Creighton welcomed the smiling faces to “the Tornado Family”!  Human Resources Director Emilee Mecusker along with Coordinator Bret Dukes set the tone for the events of the day with pastries, coffee and conversation.  Sessions throughout the day facilitated by district employees covered school and mental health safety, securing the mandatory identification badge, completing final requirements for employment including insurance enrollment.  No job is complete without knowledge of the systems that collect information data, communication methods, and tools like Chromebooks which was a popular session from the IT Department.

Instruction and curriculum guides and resources were shared by members of the Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Department.  The special programs overview facilitated by ESE Director Barbara Johns brought awareness to all new employees of the rights of parents and meeting the individual needs of every student.  The importance of building positive parent-teacher relationships, services for homeless students, and what it means to teach in a Title 1 school as all K-12 Bradford County Schools are Title 1 schools was covered.

BEA President Angie Hopkins was on hand to lend support and greetings from the Bradford Education Association.  Director of Teaching, Learning & Curriculum, Sherree Alvarez reviewed the teacher evaluation system and provided guidance on developing a growth plan.  A mentor teacher was assigned to each new teacher for guidance and support throughout their inaugural year. Mentors and mentees reported to their school for a mini-orientation, campus tour, and opportunity to work in their classrooms!

First day for teachers is August 1st.   We’ll look forward to the bright smiling faces of students on August 12th (with some exceptions due to kindergarten staggered enrollment).  It’s going to be a great school year!
